The cover line says "Avant-Garde." The cover's inspiration, Ethel Granger, had the smallest waist in (recorded) history, measuring a mere 13 inches. Ethel Granger has a waist of just 13 inches. When we posted the startling image of Stella Tennant on Vogue Italia's September cover, we focused on the model's crazy jewelry, most notably her oversize nose ring.

Vogue Italia put a model on the cover and cinched her waist to a mere 13-inches with the help of a corset belt. Photographer, Steven Meisel, shot the cover based on the fashion choices of Ethel Granger. Granger still holds the Guinness World record for the smallest waist.
