In a poll of 1038 randomly selected adults, 85% said that secondhand smoke is somewhat harmful or very harmful, but a representative of the tobacco industry claims that only 50% of adults believe that secondhand smoke is somewhat harmful or very harmful. Is there statistically significant evidence against the representative claim? Why or why not? The text book doesn't even define statistical significance. I've read all the examples in the text and looked up the definition online and still do not understand this question. Any insight would be appreciated.
