120 Miles Can't Separate Cancer Benefit for Girl, 12

Megan Wegge has a rare form of liver cancer and on Sunday, the people of Sturgeon Lake held a benefit for her.

"It's almost overwhelming how much people there are," said Wegge.

The fundraiser is helping Wegge and her family fund her treatment and living expenses in Indiana. At the same time in the Twin Cities, the Edina U12 girls' hockey team was selling lemonade to raise money for a girl they don't even know.

"Even though we don't know her, we definitely care because she's our age and it's really sad it happened and we want to make a difference for her," said Calleen Wagner.

In March, the Edina girls competed at the state tournament and heard about Wegge's story. They quickly made a connection with her because Megan skated at the same event with the Moose Lake 12-year-old girls.

As Edina raises money for a girl they've never met, the girls would like to send Wegge message.

"We would support you and we are praying for you that everything comes out perfect and that you will be okay," said Sami Bly.

Megan adds, "I want to say thank you. I think it's really great what they are doing."

On June 23, the Edina and Moose Lake hockey teams will come together at a celebrity hockey game and sell lemonade as one to honor Megan. That event will be held at the following address:

Dakotah Ice Rink
2100 Trail of Dreams NW
Prior Lake, MN 55372
