Cancer Treatment Centers of America has named Kane Dawson as president and CEO of its new southeast regional cancer hospital, which will have its official groundbreaking in Newnan Aug. 3.
The Schaumburg, Ill.-based CTCA said its new Coweta County facility, which will be located across from Ashley Park and near JCPenney on Newnan Crossing Bypass, is set to open in September 2012. It will be CTCA's fifth regional destination hospital, and will serve cancer patients and their families from across the Southeast.
The address of the new hospital will be 600 Parkway North, Newnan, GA 30265.
Festivities at the groundbreaking will include panels featuring CTCA patients, clinical experts, and other CTCA representatives who will share the company's unique approach to cancer treatment and the expected impact of CTCA on the local economy and community
CTCA specializes in complex and advance-stage adult cancer care and provides what it describes as "a comprehensive, fully integrated and personalized treatment experience" at hospitals in suburban Chicago, Philadelphia, suburban Phoenix and Tulsa.
Dawson, 39, is formerly the chief operating officer at CTCA at Eastern Regional Medical Center in Philadelphia, where he helped open the facility in 2005. Since its opening, CTCA in Philadelphia has created more than 700 jobs.
Earlier this year, Dawson was recognized as one of Philadelphia's "Top 40 Under 40" by the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Newnan hospital -- recognized as one of the "State of Georgia's Top 10 Economic Development Projects" by former Governor Sonny Perdue -- is expected to generate 500 new jobs and $500 million in economic activity over the first five years of operation.
It is expected be a "destination hospital," with more than two-thirds of its cancer patients expected to arrive for treatment from outside of Georgia.
CTCA officials say that cancer patients and their families travel hundreds of miles one way to receive the unique CTCA treatment model known as "Patient Empowered Care." The CTCA model combines state-of-the-art treatments and technology with an array of complementary therapies that help manage side effects and improve quality of life. CTCA also encourages and empowers patients to take an active role in treatment decision-making.
"We are building this hospital to be closer to the patients we serve in the Southeast," Dawson said. "To succeed, we need to be good community partners in Newnan, Coweta County and throughout Georgia. We are honored to be welcomed into the state and look forward to being a valued member of the community."
Dawson, an Indiana native, has been with CTCA for almost a decade. He started as vice president of oncology and patient services at the organization's Chicago-area hospital in Zion, Ill. before becoming COO of its Philadelphia hospital.
Prior to joining CTCA, Dawson served as vice president of business development for Piedmont Healthcare System in Rock Hill, S.C. He has worked with Tenet Healthcare Corp as well as Trimeridian, Inc. and Charter Behavioral Health Systems.
"Kane and our growing southeastern team share our commitment to serve the needs of cancer patients by focusing on quality care, efficiency and service excellence," said Steve Bonner, president and CEO of CTCA. "We look forward to opening our doors to patients and families in the region and providing care based on their individual needs and goals."
