The annual "Teal There's a Cure" 5K run/walk fundraiser for ovarian cancer awareness and education begins 9 a.m. Monday at Marcellus Park in Marcellus. Money raised at the event will go to GRACE'S, a local support group for women with ovarian cancer and other gynecologic cancers, the American Cancer Society and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
Ovarian cancer is one of the five leading causes of cancer death among women in the nation and it is the most deadly form of gynecologic cancer.
The registration fee is $20. There will be an awards ceremony after the race. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
Luncheon for scholarships
What: The Onondaga County Retired Teachers Association will hold a luncheon noon Wednesday at Drumlins.
About the event: The organization will award scholarships to three students selected by its scholarship committee.
Cruise to benefit library
What: The Baldwinsville Public Library's second annual Seneca River Boat Cruise, 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. departing from Dutchman's Landing.
About the event: Tickets are $40 and available at the library. There will be entertainment, food and drawings.
Seneca River Days set
What: Annual Seneca River Days Friday and Saturday in Baldwinsville
About the event: On Friday there is a concert at 6 p.m. on Paper Mill Island, followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m. in Mercer Park. There are events 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in Mercer Park.
Event to help Fabius farmer
What: "Shop for Bernie" day, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at All in the Kitchen, 7575 Buckley Road, North Syracuse.
About the event:The store will donate 10 percent of sales to help pay medical expenses of Bernie Golden, a Fabius dairy farmer who was recently hospitalized.
Benefit for kidney patient
What: Steve-Stock, an afternoon of music, food and a silent auction, begins 1 p.m. Sunday at the Lost Horizon, 5863 Thompson Road, Syracuse.
About the event: Admission: $10. Proceeds will help pay medical expenses of Steven Alexander, a 2000 graduate of Le Moyne College who is awaiting a kidney transplant.
SA's Christmas in July
The Salvation Army is appealing to individuals and businesses this month to contribute to help its serve the needy in the Syracuse area. The organization is asking companies to conduct food drives or mini red kettle campaigns. It's also inviting individuals to contribute to the red kettles at the Downtown Farmers' Market in Clinton Square July 12, July 19 and July 26, donate to its food pantry or volunteer at the Salvation Army. "The Strike Lou Gehrig's Disease High School Baseball Classic committee donated $10,000 to the ALS Clinic at Upstate Medical University Hospital.
"General Electric employees and retirees donated more than $246,000 over the past year to Syracuse area charities and cultural organizations. The GE Foundation matched their gifts.
"Welch Allyn, a manufacturer of medical products, raised more than $5,000 for the United Way of Central New York at a community tag sale at its headquarters in Skaneateles Falls.
"Bank of America Merrill Lynch donated $20,000 to Auburn Memorial Hospital to help pay for renovation of its maternity wing.
Results
The Food Bank of Central New York has raised $3.3 million toward its $5 million capital campaign goal. The money will be used to pay for the cost of buying and renovating its new facility at 7066 Interstate Island Road, Van Buren.
